In 1970, a talented man named Jesse Brown opened the first specialty outfitter store in the southeast, in Greer, SC. After debating the name of the store, he creatively decided to call it: Jesse Brown’s Backpacking, Mountaineering, Canoeing, & Kayaking.
.
He was an adventurer, outdoorsman, and pilot, and had been inspired to open his own outfitters from frequenting one in the heart of New York City in the 1950's and 1960's when on business trips to the "City That Never Sleeps."
.
Soon after, the fledgling store expanded and moved to Charlotte, NC occupying a number of locations over the years. With the addition of the Fly-Fishing Department to the store's repertoire in the late-1970's, and the store's early 1990's move to the Sharon Corners Shopping Center in the SouthPark Shopping District, Jesse Brown’s Outdoors has cemented itself as the region's go-to specialty outdoor, fly-fishing, and travel outfitter.
.
Today, the experienced and knowledgeable staff of the Southeast’s oldest independently run outfitting store, continue to provide the best in adventure gear to generations of clients.
.
We are proud to be "Charlotte’s Favorite Fly Shop," continually assisting clients in fly-fishing rod and reel purchases, offering fly casting guided trips and demonstration classes, and by stocking a wide variety of angling flies, accessories, and clothing.
.
Jesse Brown’s Outdoors is also home to Charlotte’s longest running radio program and ever-popular podcast - the weekly ‘Carolina Outdoors’ WBT Radio Show (1110AM/99.3FM) & Podcast where the ‘Outdoor Guys’ round up stories from across the Carolinas, share outdoor activity ideas, and update listeners on interesting nature-specific happenings from around the nation.
.
